Dear Yama/Chitragupta -
Another year and another letter to you. I hope your business doing well. Another year of bumper harvest, I suppose? Projections for 2024 states that you will go past 2023's total (source: https://ourworldindata.org/births-and-deaths). High-fives around? What is the party looking like? Who is your best sales agent so far and how are you rewarding them? So many questions but no answers. Just like the Indian government!
Alright, heading to the main topic: How is Chuchu mama? How is he treating you call? Does he talk about us often? Well, tell him I miss him a lot. I am here in India with the family on vacation, and I was looking for him everywhere. It is hard to not to miss him and I do. Please convey that message to him.
How are the mama and his anna's interactions going? I mean Sarathy mama whom you recruited recently. They must be having a jolly good time, especially with Gopu mama thatha with whom you must have already been having an enjoyable time! They must be having a whale of a time with carom board, playing cards or chatting about random things while folding their vetrilai along with beetle nut (areca nut) and chunnambu.
We had plans to make mutta ghose pakkoda in remembrance, but things, unfortunately, did not along well. In any event, we did remember him by getting onion pakkoda, kaara sev, pudhina pakkoda, and onion samosa from "Sri Karpagambal Kabali Sweets Stall" (13, Mathala Narayanan St, Vinayaka Nagar Colony, Mylapore, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600004). Though it was hot and sweltry, I did walk around for about 4-5 kilometers exploring some parts of Mylapore. I did visit Ganapathy's to get some narthnga, mahali, maa vadu, kuru milagai and pirandai for Shruthi, Skanda and me. Looks like both of these shops are my thatha's favourite savory shop, and thus became my mama's. Speaking of my thatha, how is he doing? Is he still into "astrology" or has he taken up his more objective, favourite pass time - Chess? Or is he into his books? How is paati doing? Is she still cooking up a festival up there? I never had the opportunity to taste her samayal directly, only through my mom's hand. :-/
Well, mama, gone are the good times, eh? I wish you were there when we visited Badami caves, and the trip to Mudumalai or that yet-another-trip to Thirukurungudi. It would have been very nice to have you as company. Any chance of short meet-up? May be to feel your warmth? Help?
Ennamo, have a fantastic time up there. Jealous! Until next time.
