The end margazhi maasam and kari naals, marks the season (It continues till July and a break and then starts from mid August to mid December, then again a break till January end) of wedding, and related happenings. Basically, the start of anything during this time should end in a good way. And yesterday happened to be a wedding reception of my mom’s relative’s (Yeah, I too am related! What a dumb statement!) daughter! I was very adamant to not attend it, even if god comes down and rages a war against me, but you know one can never win their mom. The retinue of my mom was me and my mom’s cousin. My mom’s cousin is about 10yrs elder to me and we have good rapport.
So, I and my mom went ahead to my cousin’s place to pick him. I waited outside his house and mom went inside. As I was waiting, (There’s a ladies tailor shop adjacent to the place) one of the tailor came out and started a conversation. My mobile had zero signal, and I was little annoyed. He noticed and said that the signal near his shop was always bad and blah blah blah… Since we had acquainted before, he started talking about his daughter working in Oracle and the place where it was located. He said that to emphasize that his daughter was really working in that place. Then came the scrutiny-
He: Son, Where are you working?
Me: Mannaar and Mannaar company, formerly known as ABC solutions…
He: Oh, where is it?
Me: XYZ road…
He: Is it also MNC? You know like Oracle, Wipro, Infosys and TCS…
Me: Yeah…
He: Do they have office in US of A?
Me: Yeah…
From a distance, I heard a voice of my rescuer “Kanna polama?” A sigh of relief, as I was sure to know the next obvious question… “Yabba! Great escape!”
That was just round 1, round 2 was supposed to be more gruesome than the previous one. There are always millions of unknown relatives asking the same set of questions. (Will write a blog on marriage related gossips and questions)
The crowd in the hall was total strangers or barely acquainted, except a few.
I found a corner place (where the density was relatively less!). I and my cousin went there as my mom entered the maze (Similar to the one Abhimanu went and got killed!). After sometime, I settled down with the routine-grape-juice and my mobile snooker game. In the middle of the game I saw my cousin’s number flashing on my mobile. I thought “Adapaavi!” I went in search of him and there! He was standing next to my mom and a set of relatives. These relatives were so very remotely connected to me (Not by blood line, but by distance!) All these makkal were
At this marriage neither the food was good nor did I have good time with all the makkal there!
But today I had gone to engagement at the city outskirts; there the food was worth mentioning. It was not extravagant and distasteful as yesterday. The food was simple and magnificent.
For the past two days I had been in
Too much US-ism makes me go blue! io!
