Candle light dinners are a common sight, if you hail from Madras. Almost every other night you’ll be having one and that too not in a restaurant but in your house itself. With everything laid and spread out on the dinner table we would sit and pray “God! Please not today, please! Do not bring in that infamous Power cuts again.” And that’s when odds do not happen and neither the miracles, the Power happily dims and dies. And we are left at the mercy of candle lights and mosquitoes. Yes, we do own an emergency lamp, but it works only for sometime as it needs constant power supply to get charged. Once gone, we need to constantly pester the Madras Electricity Supply to send in their Engineer to look into the issue (in house Engineers will not look into it, even though he has a degree in Electrical Engineering, his ideas are elsewhere; in a dream land and a duet with a dream girl - Machi! Kalakkara, yengayo poita po! Orey the Goosebumps!) Power never returns until the mid-day or the evening of the next day!
And today after a long time I was invited for a Candle Light dinner. Perfect date and day! The place – Inchara. Situated in JP Nagar, it was a rickety travel to that place and I had been there but never for dinner! Thatched roofs with King type trusses, it was beautiful. Hotels are great income makers in Bangalore – people seldom cook here because either they are lazy or they never get time as most of the occupants are Software Engineers. Can be pardoned!
Driven by cheese craze, I was into Continental foods. With a starter of “Cheese balls with Black forest Potato Salad” (whose side-effects are a part of dinner-thereafter) and Litchi Delight, I was rapacious. Devouring the whole plate of cheese stuff was quite a task, but that too passed, then came the main course, a lime soda and finally finishing off with a “Cold Coffee with Ice Cream”. I really pity the girl whom I might go on a date with or dinner (Uncle’s age and do I need to have these ideas? Mummyyyyyyyyy!); I would find her dozing off to glory after seeing how I’m when I see food. What a blighter?! Side by side I had SMS session with my friend in Madras ending with an autobiography called Sundaraghandom with a King in it called Bandaghondom.
It was a treat and involved alcohol as well… For an Appy Fizz I will become high so, refrained from touching alcohol. Our roomy was high after two and quarter of Beer bottles and that’s when the entire fun session began. He went on ranting, well absolutely hilarious! Quite interesting what alcohol can do to you…
By now, it is concluded that 3 guys were at the Candle Light Dinner and it is no more "How Romantic?!"
We had fun-ride in the auto and then session back home – fantabulous! Then an hour on the phone with a friend ended what was to be a very fruitful day… The hour went like seconds as we discussed everything from life to what not! Phew!
After typing one travelogue and one experience bed called me with a voice that was of an angel.
Sianara Folks!
